Will You be needing this crash helmet during the flight?

Day 1

Day one is over.  Started early this morning at the airport with John's usual altercation with the check in staff.  I mean, "Why have a Business/Fast Track check in and then not have anyone on it, and to add insult to injury you then make us go to the back of the queue!"

For those of you not familiar with John, that is normal travel with him.  But after a soothing glass of wine and peanuts in the lounge we were ready for flight number one.  Slightly delayed it meant that we had to walk rather smartly from one area to another at Schipol to ensure that we got onto our Chicago flight.

And what do you know... another John trap, US security before we boarded requested that we remove electrical goods from hand luggage, belts, boots and coats.  Do these people not know we are going to miss the flight?  So biking jeans sliding down our legs we hurried onto the flight.  We were up in the sunshine deck.  Bike helmets don't fit into the overhead lockers, neither do rucksacks packed with a days worth of biking clothes.  Just in case the luggage doesn't make it to Chicago with us.  Hence the comment from the stewardess... Would we be needing our helmets during the flight?  I'm not printing John's response.

After an uneventful and rather pleasant flight which saw us both getting some sleep we arrived at a very hot and sticky Ohare airport in Chicago.

So the night is now closing in.  We've had our briefing, a 07.00 start.  (Quiet groan from Wendy), we've met our fellow travellers. An interesting bunch, and now as John snores loudly, I'm writing this up.

Thought you may like the view from our window at night.  There is spectacular lightening flashes and we are told that there will probably be some thunder and electric storms as we travel out to our first destination Springfield tomorrow.

Chicago is not the windy city we expected, but rather a hot and sticky one!

Good night... I have an early start and my first time as pillion with John.... Oh my goodness.

  1. I like the sound of you flights. Doesn't sound out of the ordinary to me????

I thought I heard that Chicago got the name Windy City from the politicians talking too much.

    Have fun heading to Springfield

  2. Wow! What an amazing view - and flight experience. I must admit I did think of Chicago as windy and cold but I guess it is summer up there (hard for those of us right down here to even imagine!). Safe travels :)
