Ready for the off....

Riding Route 66 was one of those things which was on John's list of things he wanted to do before he died.  Well, after various hiccups along the way.   A belief that we were going to Nepal and the Kingdom of the World was not John's priority in life... and strangely working in Turkmenistan became a priority.  But, John is finally off on his dream of Route 66 on the back of a Harley. I had to trick him at Christmas to get the old bugger to book the time off work.  Nepal trip, not that he was too enthused.

His face when opening up the present was a picture... sadly one I don't have to post.  To say he was not enthralled was an understatement.  Dancing with Yaks, sleeping in Yurts and visiting remote mountain outposts was just a little too much like work.

This trip was originally planned for 2006 but for a variety of reasons didn't happen.  It has stayed on the bucket list.  For his 60th birthday I thought that something a bit special would be in order... perhaps completing the dream of Route 66.

So here we are on the eve of our trip, having had brilliant advice and support from the team at HC Travel and David Steel.  David has previously done the route and offered me sound advice in terms of buying equipment and sourcing ideas for how to do things.
